Before You Arrive

  1. Get in Touch with SMA
    Email or WhatsApp us with your travel itinerary, planned arrival date, and accommodation status.
  2. Confirm Housing
    If you don’t have accommodation yet, we will help you find verified, safe homes.
  3. Understand Weather & Clothing
    Sault experiences extreme winters. Carry or buy:
    • Winter Jacket (−20°C+)
    • Thermal innerwear
    • Snow boots
    • Gloves, scarf, toque (woollen cap)

  • Bank Account: We’ll guide you to set up with local banks (Scotia, RBC, etc.)
  • SIM Card: Pick affordable plans (Fido, Public Mobile, Freedom)
  • Transit: Learn city bus routes; monthly student pass is available
  • Groceries: Indian stores, Walmart, Food Basics, Dollarama nearby
  • Orientation: Attend SMA city tour and info session
